
J. Steven Griles, former deputy secretary at the
Interior Department, is going to
jail! Well, sort of. He's supposed to get 10 months for lying to the
Senate Indian Affairs Committee but will spend half of his time in home confinement. Not a
bad deal if you ask us.
But anyway, that reminded us of his infamous parting words to the SCIA on
November 2, 2005. After
Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona), the committee chairman at the time, adjourned the hearing, Griles felt it was appropriate to keep talking -- about settlement of the
Cobell trust fund lawsuit!
Here are his famous last words:
Senator, thank you, and I hope you well as you move forward in dealing with the Indian trust issue. This is so important to Interior to get that dealt with.
If you ask us, he should receive an increase in his sentence for that stupid comment alone [
