Schwarzenegger to raise $20M to fight ballot initiatives

printer friendly
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) plans to raise $20 million to defeat two gaming initiatives, The Los Angeles Times reports.

Last week, Schwarzenegger announced he was near a deal with several gaming tribes to generate more revenues for the state. In doing so, he said he would oppose an initiative sponsored by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians and another by a coalition of card clubs and racetracks.

To raise money for his fight, Schwarzenegger is considering accepting donations from tribes. During the recall campaign, he criticized rivals for accepting tribal cash.

Undeterred by the new threat, the Agua Caliente Tribe says it will press forward with its initiative.
