Opponents of gaming initiative launch ad campaign

printer friendly
Opponents of a ballot initiative that would force California tribes to share slot machine revenues launched a multi-million television ad campaign on Friday.

The No on Proposition 68 campaign is an alliance of law enforcement, education and local government groups. Tribes are backing the effort.

Proposition 68 would force all tribes with casinos to share 25 percent of slot revenues with the state. If any tribe refuses, or if the deal is broken for any reason, non-Indian card clubs and racetracks would be allowed to operate slots.

A poll released on Friday showed that nearly 50 percent of voters area against Proposition 68. A substantial number, 40 percent also opposed Proposition 70, another gaming initiative that tribes are supporting.
