Group to fight off-reservation New Mexico casino


A group opposed to an off-reservation casino in New Mexico includes representatives of the horse industry that competes with Indian gaming.

At least four members of the Committee to Protect Do�a Ana County represent racetracks. The president of the New Mexico State University Board of Regents, which has been promised money from a racetrack owner, is also part of the group.

Jemez Pueblo has teamed up with an art dealer to acquire land in southern New Mexico for a casino. The proposed casino would compete with racetracks and casinos owned by the Mescalero Apache Nation of New Mexico and the Tigua Tribe of Texas.
