Tribe makes last pitch for gaming initiative

printer friendly
The Agua Band of Cahuilla Indians is winding down its campaign for Proposition 70, an initiative to allow tribes to operate more than 2,000 slot machines in exchange for sharing revenues with the state.

The tribe sponsored Prop. 70 in response to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's claim that tribes aren't paying their "fair share" to the state. Tribes would share 8.84 percent of net revenues if the initiative is approved.

Schwarzenegger (R) has campaign heavily against the initiative and polls show support well below 50 percent. Schwarzenegger is also opposing Proposition 70, a non-Indian initiative whose backers no longer support.
