Minnesota GOP still wants tribal casino revenues

printer friendly
Republicans in Minnesota say they will continue to push for a share of tribal casino revenues despite losing seats in the House.

Democrats emerged from Election Day with a net gain of 13 House seats. The party split is now 68-66 in favor of the GOP.

In the final days of the campaign, Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) and other Republicans made gaming an issue. They want tribes to share $350 million in revenues.

But Sarah Janecek, co-editor of Politics in Minnesota and a Republican activist, says the tactic backfired and came off as racist. A majority of Minnesota voters do support Pawlenty's plan, however, according to a recent poll.
