New Mexico off-reservation casino under wraps

printer friendly
A small northern New Mexico tribe isn't ready to discuss a proposed casino in the southern part of the state, The Albuquerque Journal reports.

Picuris Pueblo is said to be interested in casino in the Chaparral area, near El Paso, Texas. But tribal leaders haven't discussed the issue, said a county official where the casino would be located.

The tribe is said to be working with a firm called Compadres Gaming. Rafael Gutierrez is a partner in the firm and was the state's Gaming Control Board tribal liaison until he was forced to resign when problems with his past were uncovered. He had been sanctioned by the board and was involved with a California tribe whose casino was targeted by federal authorities.
