Miccosukee Tribe seeks right to slot machines

printer friendly
The Miccosukee Tribe of Florida says a recent ballot initiative clears the way for Class III slot machines at its casinos.

Voters in two counties narrowly approved Amendment 4 last November. It allows each county to set up a referendum on the legalization of slot machines at existing parimutuel facilities.

The referenda haven't been held yet but the Miccosukees say Amendment 4 allows them to operate Class III machines. They have asked Gov. Jeb Bush (R) to start negotiating a tribal-state compact.
