Cayuga Nation elects casino-friendly government

Member of the Cayuga Nation of New York have elected the tribe's first governing council in hopes of moving forward with a casino in the Catskills.

The casino faced doubts when the tribe's representative said he didn't support a settlement with the state. Clint Halftown was later removed and has been replaced by an interim council of four members that favor the gaming plan.

The tribe has an agreement with Empire Resorts to build the casino. In a Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Tuesday, the firm said the leadership issue could hinder plans.

Empire also has an agreement with the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma for a casino.
