Onshore non-Indian casinos coming to Mississippi

printer friendly
Some non-Indian casinos in Mississippi will be allowed to come onshore under a bill that is being signed into law this week.

State law currently requires casinos to be located in the Gulf Coast or in the Mississippi River. But Hurricane Katrina's devastation prompted lawmakers to allow the Gulf Coast casinos to build structures onshore. The bill doesn't affect the riverboat casinos.

Mississippi has one tribal casino operated by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. The tribe has fought efforts to expand Indian and non-Indian gaming in nearby states.
