BIA, NIGC to take up Enterprise Rancheria casino

The Bureau of Indian Affairs and the National Indian Gaming Commission will be preparing an environmental impact statement for the Enterprise Rancheria's proposed casino.

The BIA and NIGC are considering whether the tribe can build a casino off its reservation. The tribe wants to acquire 40 acres in Yuba County.

County officials appear to be on board with the project and will join the BIA and NIGC in reviewing documents for the environmental impact report.

County voters are also being asked to weigh in with a nonbinding referendum on the casino. Two gaming tribes based out of the county are fighting the project, saying the Enterprise Rancheria is "reservation shopping." One of the tribes recently opened a casino on restored land.
