Another snag in transfer of Alabama land to UKB

printer friendly
There's yet another snag in the transfer of 69 acres in Alabama to the United Keetoowah Band of Oklahoma.

An attorney is claiming one-half ownership of the land in Fort Payne. If the claim is valid, it could affect the transfer of the land to the tribe.

David Hammonds, a local businessman who wants to make the transfer says the claim is not valid. He says he bought the land with attorney Charles McGee a decade ago but that McGee hasn't kept up his end of the bargain.

The tribe says it will break ground on a cultural center on the property. Hammonds has stirred controversy by saying the land can be used for Class II gaming.
