The Cowlitz Tribe of Washington is offering the city of La Center $30 million in revenues from its proposed casino.
The tribe is proposing to share revenues in order to offset the impact the casino will have on local non-Indian cardrooms. Last year, the cardrooms paid the city $3.7 million in taxes, The Oregonian reported. To make up for the losses, the tribe says it will pay $3 million a year for 10 years.
The cardrooms are being represented by the Perkins Coe law firm, whose prior clients included three town in Connecticut who fought tribes on land-into-trust, gaming, sovereignty and federal recognition.
