Christians: Poll shows opposition to gaming

Focus on the Family, the conservative Christian organization, claims Americans show "disdain" for Indian gaming based on a poll commissioned by a group opposed to off-reservation gaming.

According to the Coalition Against Reservation Shopping, 55 percent of Americans oppose "reservation shopping" and 80 percent worry that tribes are being exploited. Another 80 percent are concerned about lobbying and 85 percent said they wanted tribes to go into other businesses besides casinos.

Focus on the Family is headed by James Dobson, who lobbied former Interior Secretary Gale Norton to oppose a casino for the Jena Band of Choctaw Indians in Louisiana. Jack Abramoff's clients opposed the casino as well and enlisted Ralph Reed to block it.

In an e-mail to Abramoff, Reed claimed he brought Dobson into the anti-Jena campaign. Three days later, Dobson sent his letter to Norton.
