The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians still wants an off-reservation casino in Grand Forks but is also s considering a deal to open a casino in Mississippi.

The tribe is in discussions with Myriad Gaming for a project in Tunica. A Myriad executive also said the company is talking with the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation of North Dakota.

The tribe, meanwhile, continues to pursue an off-reservation casino outside Grand Forks. The tribe has submitted a land-into-trust application and wants to negotiate a Class III compact with the state.

The tribe has said it might offer Class II gaming if the compact doesn't work out. But Gov. John Hoeven (R) says the tribe won't be able to conduct any sort of gaming -- not even bingo -- without state approval.
