California tribes lobby against racetrack gaming bill

printer friendly
California tribes lobbied against a bill that would have authorized video gaming at racetracks.

The Tribal Alliance of Sovereign Nations said the bill would infringe on the tribal-state compact. Chairwoman Lynn Valbuena said local communities would lose out on millions of dollars in tribal gaming revenues.

Assembly Bill 2409 had been scheduled for a hearing on Tuesday but Sen. Dean Florez, a Democrat, postponed consideration. Florez has been supportive of tribal gaming and has spoken at the California Nations Indian Gaming Association's annual conference.
