Rhode Island Gov. Donald Carcieri (R) said the state will share $392,547 in slot machine revenues with the Narragansett Tribe but tribal leaders haven't decided whether they will take the money.
Carcieri opposes the tribe's proposed casino. But he supported the addition of video slot machines at a racetrack, provided that 5 percent of the revenues from the machines go to the tribe.
Tribal leaders didn't ask for the money and viewed the arrangement as an attempt to dissuade them from pursuing the casino. A lawyer for the tribe said the check will barely amount to $167 for each of the tribe's 2,400 members.
