Developer won't support UKB gaming without taxes

An Alabama man says he won't allow the United Keetoowah Band of Oklahoma to use his property unless the tribe agrees to a tax on any casino proceeds.

David Hammonds wants to transfer 69 acres in Fort Payne to the tribe. There are currently no plans for gaming at the site but Hammonds says the tax issue must be addressed.

"I’m not going to try to put anything in Fort Payne that won’t benefit people, and I’m not going to pursue the gaming aspect until I’m satisfied as far as taxation goes," he told The Fort Payne Times-Journal

The tribe has plans to build a cultural center on the site but Hammonds says construction will be delayed pending completion of a state highway project.
