Today is the last day for two tribes to revive their plans to open off-reservation casinos in Barstow, California.

The Los Coyotes Band of Cahuilla and Cupeno Indians and the Big Lagoon Rancheria signed compacts to open side-by-side casinos at a site off a major interstate. But their deals were derailed by Democrat lawmakers and other gaming tribes who accused them of reservation shopping.

The tribes believe they have another shot at Barstow because some of the opposing tribes have signed compacts of their own. But state lawmakers are going on recess today and won't return until December.

Barstow is located on I-15, halfway between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
