Letter: Indians still being told what they can't do

printer friendly
"In one of your articles, Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton made a comment about laying in front of a bulldozer if anyone starts building a casino in Danbury.

It seems to me, Mr. Mayor, you were very quick to dismiss the Schaghticoke tribe's efforts to construct and operate a casino in the Danbury area.

American Indians are the real citizens of this country. But there are still people, such as yourself, who want to prevent them from creating employment that will enrich their lives and secure their future.

It doesn't seem to bother you a great deal that illegal immigrants live, work and enjoy a variety of opportunities that American Indians do not.

It appears that American Indian tribes need to be reminded of what they can and cannot do in a land where they once lived freely and shared with others."
