New York governor expected to announce off-reservation casino

New York Gov. David Paterson (D) is expected to make an announcement today about an off-reservation casino in the Catskills.

Paterson will make two appearances to talk about the deal, which authorizes a casino for the Stockbridge Munsee Band of Mohican Indians of Wisconsin. The tribe, whose ancestors lived in New York, is expected to drop its land claim as part of the agreement.

The Catskills is about 90 minutes north of New York City. Several tribes have wanted to open casinos there but none have successfully completed the process.
