The Cloverdale Rancheria of California has lost a portion of its proposed gaming site to foreclosure.
Sealaska, an Alaska Native regional corporation, agreed to buy two acres of the original reservation for $1.3 million. But Amonos LLC, a Sealaska subsidiary, missed a payment so the owner foreclosed.
The site is part of a land-into-trust application that the tribe submitted to the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The draft environmental impact statement refers to nearly 70 acres.
However, a Sealaska spokesperson said the two-acre portion may not necessarily be a part of the casino plan. It's next to the tribe's cemetery.
“There is an ongoing intent and effort to acquire the property and place it into trust for the benefit of the tribe for tribal uses that are separate from the casino project,” spokesperson odd Antioquia told The Santa Rosa Press-Democrat.
