"An interview with Spirit Mountain Casino’s General Manager Randy Dugger reveals some truths about the casino’s recent history, current conditions and prospects for the future.

Not long ago, press publications may have led readers and locals alike to believe that the casino has been hit hard by our economic conditions. True, the resignation of Spirit Mountain’s CEO last summer raised some eyebrows, but has the new shift in management really impacted the casino overall?

Like all honest accounts, to fully explain the casino’s current state, one must start from the beginning. A short profile of new GM Dugger provides some insight into the present and future operation of this huge business: A born-and-raised Washington State man, Dugger moved to Oregon in 1995 as a start-up employee at Spirit Mountain. Dugger traces the lineage on his mother’s side to Grand Ronde, and his father’s ancestors arriving in Oregon as far back as the 1880s.

The first position Randy Dugger held at the casino was Manager of the food and beverage department. Within four years, Dugger was promoted to managing the guest services department. Handling everything from food and beverage to retail and maintenance, he gained diversified experience which eventually led to another promotion—chief operations officer in 2009.

Dugger said of his past roles, “In every position I’ve held, I’ve had the opportunity to work with some great people who helped me learn and grow. The Tribe has also been very supportive in helping me with specific post-graduate studies in the gaming and non-gaming areas to supplement my work experiences.”"
