The Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation of Alberta celebrated the fifth anniversary of its casino.

The Eagle River Casino is Alberta's fifth Native casino. It survived the recession and will soon be expanding with an RV park and possibly a hotel.

"I want to thank everyone who has come together to make this casino a success,” Chief Cameron Alexis said at a ceremony on February 1, The Whitecourt Star reported. “It doesn’t matter what colour your skin is, if we work hard and cohesively together, we can make things work.”

The casino is managed by Paragon Gaming.
