The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut reported a big increase in profits at its gaming enterprise.

The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority saw a profit of $22.3 million for the quarter that ended on June 30. That represented a 138.2 percent increase from the same quarter last year.

"Our results for the third quarter were quite rewarding," Mitchell Grossinger Etess, the Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, said in a press release.

Etess credited job cuts and other cost saving measures with the increase in profit. But gaming revenues remained flat, highlighting the challenges facing the tribe.

The tribe operates Mohegan Sun on its reservation in Connecticut and Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, a commercial facility in Pennsylvania.
