Pokagon Band shares $16M in gaming revenues with non-profit

The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians of Michigan has shared more than $16 million in gaming revenues with its non-profit foundation since 2007.

But a change in the way the Pokagon Fund distributes money to governments in Harbor County is drawing concern. An ad hoc committee recommended that the grants be awarded, no questions asked, The Harbor County News reported.

"We would be stripped of ability to make decisions on grant requests," Robert Carpenter, a member of the Pokagon Fund's board of directors who opposes the change, told the paper.

The fund awards 45 percent to governments in Harbor County so the change would be a significant one.
