Federal and state authorities are investigating a fire that destroyed a trailer that was being used by the Shinnecock Nation of New York for its gaming office.

The fire is believed to have been started on purpose. "The exact cause and the person or persons involved is unknown at this point," Southampton Fire Department Chief Dennis Roy told Southampton Patch.

The FBI has joined the investigation. The agency raided the trailer in May as part of a cybercrime case, Newsday reported.

The tribe has been seeking to open casinos ever since winning federal recognition in October 2010.
