Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) will be paying up to $1.5 million for a study on the Menominee Nation off-reservation casino.

Walker commissioned the study to determine the economic impacts of the $800 million casino in Kenosha. He hired a law firm, which then hired a consultant firm whose principal economist puts together the annual Indian Gaming Industry Report.

In August 2013, the Bureau of Indian Affairs approved the casion under the two-part determination provisions of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. The law gives Walker veto authority over the project.

Walker originally said he would make a decision last October. But he is asking the BIA for an extension until early 2015.
