Family of Indian women are key political players

Three Indian women from the same family are playing key roles in the Montana state government.
Anna Whiting-Sorrell, Rhonda Whiting and Gwen Lankford are serving in key positions in the executive and legislative branches. All three women are members of Montana tribes.
Whiting-Sorrell, Salish/Kootenai, is Gov. Brian Schweitzer's family policy adviser. She previously ran Native American outreach for the Kerry-Edwards presidential campaign.
Whiting, Salish/Kootenai and sister to Anna, was appointed by Schweitzer to serve on the Northwest Power Planning Council. She'll help develop an electric power plan for Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.
Lankford, Gros Ventre/Assiniboine and daughter of Rhonda, is a a policy aide for the Legislature's Senate majority leadership.
