HUD expands housing program for five more tribes

The Department of Housing and Urban Development announced on Wednesday that it has expanded an Indian home loan program for five more tribes.
HUD approved expansions for the Penobscot Nation of Maine, the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head in Massachusetts, the Citizen Potawatomi Nation of Oklahoma, the Pala Band of Mission Indians in California and the Yerington Paiute Tribe of Nevada.
Under the Section 184 program, members of these tribes can apply for home loans off reservation and trust lands. The Bush administration already approved similar requests to cover tribal members in Arizona, Florida, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan and Indiana.
