The Department of Health and Human Services held its annual budget session with tribal leaders in Washington, D.C., this week.

Tribal leaders gave testimony on Tuesday and Wednesday. They told HHS officials they need more money for health programs and that they should be treated equally with states.

HHS plans to use the information to draft its 2007 budget. The Indian Health Service is one of the few agencies whose overall funding level has not been cut by the Bush administration.
