Opinion: Burns worried about public opinion

"Poor Conrad Burns. It can’t be much fun having negative press reports piling up around his re-election effort like snowflakes in a Montana winter: more mindless off-the-cuff remarks interspersed with more revelations about his connections with lobbyist Jack Abramoff interspersed with news on his latest wrong-headed vote.

In case you were wondering whether the Burns camp is worried about all of the lousy press, wonder no more. Pollsters from Moore Information, a Portland, Ore.-based survey firm that works mainly for Republicans, were calling Helena voters on Sunday asking for sentiments about the senator and related issues.

Clearly the Burns campaign is wondering how much of the bad news is going to stick to the senator and perhaps hurt his chances at the polls next November."
