Democrats take Senate as AP calls Virginia race
Thursday, November 9, 2006
The Associated Press called the Virginia Senate race for Democrat Jim Webb, giving his party control of the U.S. Senate.
A count by the AP showed Webb with 1,172,538 votes and Republican Sen. George Allen with 1,165,302, a difference of 7,236. Almost all the votes are counted.
Allen has so far refused to concede but Republicans say they don't believe he can overcome Webb or seek a recount.
