Rep. Doolittle says Democrat raided over Abramoff
Friday, May 4, 2007

Facing scrutiny for his ties to convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff, Rep. John Doolittle (R-California) said the FBI also raided the home of a Democratic lawmaker.

Doolittle wouldn't name the lawmaker but said the raid was connected to the Abramoff probe. He also said a Republican was being targeted -- most likely he was referring to Rep. Rick Renzi (R-Arizona).

Doolittle's former legislative director, Kevin Ring, used to work for Abramoff. Ring quit his lobbying job on the same day FBI agents raided Doolittle's home in northern Virginia.

Ring also helped Doolittle's wife, Julie, obtain consulting work with Abramoff. Julie is under scrutiny and has set up her own legal defense fund.

After leaving Abramoff's firm amid the lobbying scandal, Ring continued to represent some of Abramoff's former clients, including the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and the Hopi Tribe of Arizona.
