Federal court delays trial for unauthorized whalers
Friday, January 25, 2008

Five members of the Makah Nation of Washington who are accused of illegally hunting a whale have had their federal trial delayed.

The U.S. District Court in Tacoma was supposed to start the trial March 18. But it will now start April 8, The Peninsula Daily News reports.

The five tribal members are accusing of violating the Marine Mammals Protection Act. They did not have a permit to kill a gray whale on September 8.

The tribe also charged the men. But the tribal court trial has been delayed because there isn't a judge to hear it.
