Decision near on Torres-Martinez trailer park

A federal judge is expected to make a decision whether to close a controversial trailer park on the Torres-Martinez Desert Cahuilla Reservation in southern California.

Judge Stephen Larson visited the Desert Mobile Home Park last month. He told Harvey Duro, a tribal member, to submit an improvement plan or face closure.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs wants the facility, known as "Duroville," closed. Officials say health and safety conditions are deplorable.

The 40-acre trailer park is home an estimated 2,000 to 6,000 people, mostly Hispanic and Indian migrant workers from Mexico and Central America.
