Police files at issue in Narragansett raid case

Members of the Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island want the state to try to recover computer files about the state's raid of the reservation on July 14, 2003.

Retired inspector Gary Treml wrote the state troopers' internal investigation of the raid. But somehow, his files have been deleted.

Tribal members who were arrested during the raid say the state should hire a computer expert to recover the files. The state claims the files are gone forever.

The state failed to turn over other information to the defense. The tribal members -- including Chief Sachem Matthew Thomas -- say the case should be dismissed.
