New Lac du Flambeau president rejects audit

The newly elected president of the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa said he won't agree to a special audit of the Wisconsin tribe's finances.
Carl Edwards defeated incumbent Victoria Doud, who also rejected calls for an audit, on Tuesday. He said there was no need for another look into the tribe's books because it happens on a yearly basis.
"The tribe gets audited every year," Edwards told The Rhinelander Daily News. "We do get audited. Why should we pay someone else to audit us again?"
Tribal members want to review the tribe's finances, citing concerns about a gaming deal in Mississippi, an attempt to mortgage tribal land and debts.
