Pechanga culture reflected in city's town square

A $66 million town square project in Temecula, California, reflects the culture and history of the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians.

The tribe's basket weaving tradition inspired the design of a water fountain in the square. The design depicts Luiseno astronomy, water and acorns, one of the tribe's traditional foods.

"We owe (the Pechanga people) a lot as far as our culture and our history goes," Mayor Maryann Edwards told The Riverside Press-Enterprise.

The water fountain was designed by sculptor Christopher Pardell, who visited the tribal museum for inspiration.
