Leaders of four rival tribes in Washington will testify at a House Natural Resources Committee hearing on federal recognition this morning.

H.R.2678, the Duwamish Tribal Recognition Act, recognizes the Duwamish Tribe. The Muckleshoot Tribe opposes recognition for the Duwamish.

H.R.2576, the Chinook Nation Restoration Act, recognizes the Chinook Nation. The Quinault Nation opposes Chinook recognition.

The hearing takes place at 10am in Room 1324 of the Longworth House Office Building and will be broadcast online. Two other bills -- H.R.1358, the Burt Lake Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians Reaffirmation Act, and H.R.3120, the Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians Restoration Act -- are on the agenda.
