Cobell settlement estimated to bring $45M to Minnesota

The $3.4 billion settlement to the Cobell trust fund settlement could bring $45 million to Minnesota but the payments have been held up by appeals.

The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals heard the first challenge on February 16. The second will be heard on May 15, meaning a decision is likely months away.

"It's going to put money in the hands of people," Mark Anderson, a member of the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa in Minnesota, told The Minneapolis Star Tribune.

In addition to $45 million in Minnesota, the Cobell legal team estimates $55 million will go to beneficiaries in South Dakota, $54 million in North Dakota and $27 million in Wisconsin.
