Lummi Nation eyes agreement to resolve land and tax issues

The Lummi Nation is proposing an agreement to address land-into-trust and taxation issues in the city of Ferndale, Washington.

The agreement calls on the tribe to sell certain properties. The city would receive 25 percent of the sales tax revenue.

The agreement calls on the city to drop its opposition to land-into-trust applications for the remaining properties. In exchange, the tribe won't acquire additional lands within city limits or file future applications.

The agreement will be considered at a city council meeting tomorrow.
