Narragansett Tribe seeks dismissal of lawsuit by former lawyer

The Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island is seeking the dismissal of a lawsuit filed by a former attorney.

The tribe hired Donald Luckerman in the wake of the state's 2003 raid of the reservation. He now claims he is owed $1.1 million in legal fees.

The tribe counters that it did not waive its sovereign immunity in the agreement with Luckerman. He also must exhaust his tribal remedies, the tribe says.

Turtle Talk has posted documents from the case, Douglas Luckerman v. Narrangansett Tribe.
