Federal charges have been filed against a man who is accused of kidnapping, sexually abusing and assaulting a 4-year-old girl on the Fort Peck Reservation in Montana.

John William Lieba II is charged with one count of kidnapping of an individual under 18, one count of aggravated sexual abuse and assault resulting in serious bodily injury on an individual under 18. He was arrested on Wednesday and entered a not guilty plea on Thursday, according to federal court records.

The girl was abducted from a playground in Wolf Point on February 26. She was found two days later just outside of town.

Lieba is also facing kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault of a child and attempted murder in tribal court. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges.

Tribal leaders have linked the incident, and another in which a one-year-old girl was killed in April, to rampant drug abuse on the reservation.
