Indian housing council holding legislative conference

The National American Indian Housing Council is holding is 10th annual legislative conference in Washington, D.C., today.

Speakers slated to address tribal leaders include Michael Liu, assistant secretary for public and Indian housing, and Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii). The lunch session will feature Rep. Bob Ney (R-Ohio), the chairman of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing. A full agenda can be found at http://naihc.net/conferences/index.asp?bid=371.

The conference will include an announcement of a $10 million investment in Housing First for First Americans, NAIHC's program to develop 100,000 homes in Indian Country. Speakers for this initiative include Elouise Cobell, executive director of the Native American Community Development Corporation; Daniel Mudd, Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer of Fannie Mae; Keller George, President, United South and Eastern Tribes; and Russell Sossamon, chairman of the NAIHC.
