Former Menominee superintendent dies in crash
Monday, July 28, 2003

Joseph Vigil, former high school principal and superintendent on the Menominee Reservation in Wisconsin, died early Sunday in a one-car accident in New Mexico.

Vigil was driving when his car rolled over in Moriarty, outside of Albuquerque. One passenger is in critical condition while the second, the only one wearing a seat-belt, escaped without serious injuries. Alcohol may have been a factor.

Vigil, 49, worked for the Menominee Indian School District, which is located entirely within the reservation, from 1991 to 1993. He was currently serving as superintendent for Albuquerque Public Schools.
