The San Carlos Apache tribal council voted 9-2 last week to remove Robert Howard as vice chairman.

Howard was placed on leave in June after tribal officials learned he had outstanding warrants for assault and drunken driving. The warrants came to light after he suspended the tribal police chief, who then had him arrested.

Howard says he may sue to regain his position.
