Editorial: Schwarzenegger right about special interests
Monday, September 1, 2003

Arnold Schwarzenegger, the leading Republican in California's recall election, is right to cal tribes "special interests," The Sacramento Bee says in an editorial.

The paper says Schwarzenegger refused an invitation to appear before the California Nations Indian Gaming Association last Friday. But Gov. Gray Davis (D), Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante (D) and State Sen. Tom McClintock (R) did, and they are bowing to the powerful tribes, the paper says.

"Tribes alone operate casinos in California," the paper says. "They have a strong special interest in expanding and protecting their lucrative monopoly."
