The FBI and the Bureau of Indian Affairs are investigating a shootout on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota that left one man dead and a teenage girl in critical condition.

A Oglala Sioux tribal police officer killed the man, identified as Alex DeSersa, 22. He was shot after opening fire on tribal police who arrived at the scene and ended up shooting the girl, 17, in the stomach.

The girl is recovering in a hospital.
