Thursday, October 23, 2003

Live gavel-to-gavel coverage of the annual Alaska Federation of Natives convention begins today on KNBA 90.3 FM. An audio feed of the station is available at http://www.knba.org.

Live video is also available. A link can be found on the AFN web site at http://www.nativefederation.org/frames/2003convention.html.

Scheduled speakers include Alaska Gov. Frank Murkowski (R), Indian Health Service director Dr. Charles Grim, National Congress of American Indians executive director Jackie Johnson, and National Museum of the American Indian director Rick West.

Sen. Ted Stevens (R), who has sparked controversy with plans to consolidate funding for Alaska tribes, is not on the agenda. Neither are Bureau of Indian Affairs representatives.

The convention runs through Saturday.
